Wildlife on Country Roads
Did you know that 1 in every 41 casualty crashes on country roads involves a vehicle hitting an animal
When driving on country roads remember these tips to safely manage an animal or wildlife encounter
* Stay alert when driving near water sources, and at dawn and dusk as animals are more active in these conditions.
* Slow down when you see an animal on or near the road, and drive slowly past it where possible.
* Brake safely and firmly– Never swerve as you can lose control of your car which may lead to a larger accident.
* Report injured wildlife to WIRES on 1300 094 737 or use the IFAW Wildlife Rescue App to find a nearby wildlife rescue organization.
